Dr. Zeiher is professor of medicine and board-certified in internal medicine and cardiology. He has served on the faculties of Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg Germany from 1990 to 1995 as director of interventional cardiology. Since May 1995, Dr. Zeiher has been the chairman of medicine in the Department of Cardiology, Angiology, and Nephrology at the J. W. Goethe University of Frankfurt, Germany.
Dr. Zeiher is the recipient of numerous awards, honors, and grants and has published more than 400 original articles and reviews with over 35,000 citations. His current h-index is 99. According to a most recent analysis, he is ranked among the top five of the most cited authors working in Europe in the field of cardiovascular and circulation research. He is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.
Dr. Zeiher is past-chairman of the Working Group on Interventional Cardiology of the European Society of Cardiology. He served on the editorial boards of several journals, including Circulation, Circulation Research, European Heart Journal and others. He is currently the co-chairman of the Excellence Cluster Cardio-Pulmonary System (ECCPS) of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Dr. Zeiher’s research interests include basic and clinical aspects of vascular biology and atherosclerosis, the role of stem and progenitor cells for endogenous cardiovascular repair as well as their therapeutic application for regenerating cardiovascular function, and the use of biomarkers for risk prediction and therapeutic stratification of patients with acute coronary syndromes.
